Incredible India in pictures depicting Indian diversity in cultures, heritage, history, archaeology, literature & religion, from tribal communities to popular settlements.

Vrindavan & the region around it is considered holy grounds by Indians, especially the followers of Lord Krishna. It is said that the Lord is present to this day & appears in Ras Lila (Divine play with the consorts) in the gardens of Vrindavan. The place is spiritually uplifting to many, although the events have been frequently misquoted by disbelievers, aethists & the Western materialistic scholars in their interpretations.

Over 5000 years of human civilization, prosperity in arts, science, philosophy and non-materialistic sciences have also harbored religions, rituals & various customs in India. Very often we follow these rituals mechanically these days without completely knowing the purpose or completely following the processes as prescribed in the Vedas.

This amazing afternoon image is taken of the Taj Mahal from the Agra Fort. This is the fort where Shah Jahan was exiled by his son Aurangzeb, and he decided to mourn his last days from an attic room from where he could see his creation, the Taj Mahal, and be in company with his memories of his departed wife Mumtaz Mahal.

It is believed by many Hindus that dying in Varanasi & having their cremation & last rites performed in Varanasi, lead them to Moksha or liberation. It frees their spirit & soul from ever being born again. And this liberation is granted by Lord Shiva at the moment of death.

Varanasi is hence populated with a large number of saints & monks who have given up worldly life in preparation of last day. Many embody the spirit of Lord Shiva with their attires & assume the lotus posture while sitting.

Over 5000 years of human civilization, prosperity in arts, science, philosophy and non-materialistic sciences have also harbored religions, rituals & various customs in India.
