Like most of India, the state of Goa is immensely diverse in her landscape, religion, lifestyles & cultures. Although Goa has a large Portuguese habitation & consequently a lot of Spanish architecture & churches, other religions are also thriving in the Goan communities.

This is the image of Nagnath Temple, also known as Parra Mahadev temple, in Parra, Goa, a very nice small temple on the way to Calangute or Baga beach. A fascinating trivia on the location of Para is that Parra is a Spanish, Portuguese & also Jewish surname, meaning grapevine or trellis, for example, a pergola. It is taken from the word meaning lattice work and the vines raised on it. In Hebrew context the surname is used for Jewish people whose ancestors were wine makers as “Parra”.

Over 5000 years of human civilization, prosperity in arts, science, philosophy and non-materialistic sciences have also harbored religions, rituals & various customs in India. Very often we follow these rituals mechanically these days without completely knowing the purpose or completely following the processes as prescribed in the Vedas.
