9) Raja Ram Mohun Roy Museum – this museum, which bears a lot of history & sentiments of the Bengali culture, was renovated in around 1986 by the Ram Mohan College authorities & Government of India & converted into a museum & library. This colonial Georgian style mansion was purchased by Rammohun from one Francis Mendes for INR 13,000 probably in the year 1815. It was earlier known as the “Shimla House”, a name that was derived from the location which was then known as Shimla.
The library has a rare collection of books & manuscripts, mostly relevant to the time & life of Raja Ram Mohun Roy.
Address: 85A, Raja Ram Mohan Sarani, Kolkata, West Bengal 700009, India. The library is open from Tuesday to Friday, from 11.30 AM to 4.00 PM IST & on Saturday from 11.30 AM to 1.30 PM IST & Sunday from 11.30 AM to 4.00 PM IST. Its closed on all national holidays.
10) Kolkata Port Trust Maritime Heritage Museum – the Kolkata Port, constructed in 1870, was the trading hub of the British empire’s East India Trading Company & led to the settlement of British colonial troops in India.
As the British domination of the Indian communities expanded & the exploitation of the sub-continent grew, the British rulers made Kolkata it’s Capital city, supplemented by the trade routes & the enormous Kolkata Port.
The Kolkata Port Trust Heritage Museum is operational from June 2009 & is housed in a 100 years old heritage building, Fairlie Warehouse on Strand Road, which was the hub of commercial activity during that time.

11) RBI Museum – the Reserve Bank of India Museum is again one of a kind museum in Kolkata that provides a very immersive experience on the history of Indian economy, Indian currency & the historical background of the Indian Reserve Bank.
Address: 8 Council House St, Lal Dighi, B.B.D. Bagh, Kolkata, West Bengal 700001, India. There is no entry fee. PS: Photography is allowed but videography is not allowed.
12) Thantania Kali Bari Temple – one of the most revered Hindu temple dedicated to Mother Kali is the one at Thanthania. Also known as the Thanthania Siddheswari Kali Bari, the presiding deity is Divine Siddheshwari & was constructed in either 1703 or 1803 by Shankar Ghosh & still remains one of the most popular worship sites for Hindus in Kolkata.
13) Swami Narayan Temple – this Hindu religious temple of worship was consecrated and opened to public in the year 2014. History states that Lord Swaminarayan (as Nilkanth Varni) had passed through this land to visit Ganga Sagar (Sagar Island) in the Bay of Bengal.
The main temple is dedicated to an incarnation and revered form of Lord Vishnu & houses many deities & gurus while the courtyard in front of the temple houses many smaller temples, all of which resembles beautifully cut small shrines dedicated to Lord Vishnu and his avatars.

14) Beth El Synagogue – Beth El & Magen David synagogues are located very close to each other & represent the secular Indian culture & the dependence on religion of the nation. “Beth El” means “House of God” & this Jewish place of worship bears the traditional hexagonal “Star of David” and the seven pointed candle stand of “Menorah.”
Although services are not held in this synagogue any more, this remains an immaculate Jewish heritage landmark with chequered marble floor, chandeliers & stained glass windows.

15) St. Thomas’s Church – this is a 1842 landmark of Roman Catholic, Latin Rite church under the aegis of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese Of Calcutta. It lies in the heart of Kolkata & apart from being a religious place of worship for the Christian communities in Kolkata also bears the historical significance in the life of Mother Teresa. Mother Teresa lay in state in this church for one week prior to her funeral, in September 1997.
